The second stage of formal schooling, after primary school; the word is used almost only in shule ya upili, secondary school, and elimu ya upili, secondary education.

Good to know

Mostly Kenyan: Tanzania usually says shule ya sekondari. It never changes form and follows ya: shule ya upili, elimu ya upili.
