Meaning

The quality of being great or supreme, and in Tanzanian usage the post of a head, as in ukuu wa mkoa, the office of regional commissioner.

Good to know

A noun of the u- class, from -kuu, great or chief. Ukuu wa wilaya is the post of district commissioner; ukuu wa Mungu is the greatness of God. Makao makuu (headquarters) uses the adjective -kuu, not this noun.
