Meaning
Of a person on trial, to be declared guilty of a crime by a court after the evidence has been heard. It is the step that comes before sentencing.

Literally to be put into guilt (hatia). The offense follows kwa: kutiwa hatiani kwa kosa la wizi, to be convicted of theft. The opposite is kuachiwa huru, to be acquitted.
