In football reports, for an attacking player to be offside, ahead of the last defender when the ball is played to him. It comes from kuota moto, to warm oneself at a fire, which survives in the saying moto wa kuotea mbali.

Common in sports news: mfungaji alikuwa ameotea, the scorer was offside; mtego wa kuotea, the offside trap. Moto wa kuotea mbali, a fire to warm oneself at from afar, describes a very strong team or player.
