Meaning

To throw oneself into something with commitment, such as a race, politics, a career or a risky place. In news it is often used for entering an election contest or a new line of work.

Reflexive verb, ji means oneself; the field follows katika or kwenye: kujitosa katika siasa, to go into politics. Common in election news: amejitosa kuwania ubunge, he has entered the race for parliament.
