To make a newly chosen leader, official or member of parliament take the oath of office in a formal ceremony.
Good to know
The causative of kuapa, to swear. The person sworn in is the object: kumwapisha waziri, to swear in a minister. The passive kuapishwa is common: aliapishwa jana, he was sworn in yesterday. The ceremony is hafla ya kuapisha.
