In Tanzania, a small administrative area made up of several villages or streets, with its own executive officer and an elected councillor.

Good to know

Plural also kata: kata ya Mtibwa, Mtibwa ward. A councillor is diwani, and afisa mtendaji wa kata is the ward executive officer. Kata is also the stem of kukata, to cut.
