Meaning

The official residence and office of a head of state, such as State House in Dar es Salaam or Nairobi, and more generally a palace.

Good to know

Often written with a capital: Ikulu ya Dar es Salaam. Ikulu is used for the presidency itself (Mkurugenzi wa Mawasiliano Ikulu), and kuingia Ikulu means to become president.
