An organization owned and run by its members, such as farmers who join together to sell their coffee or cotton or to save and borrow money. It is common in rural Tanzania.

Good to know

Chama is of the ki/vi class, so the plural is vyama vya ushirika. Ushirika means cooperation or partnership; a savings and credit cooperative is known as SACCOS.
