Meaning

Introduces a relative clause about one person already named, like English who or whom.

Good to know

Used for one person or animal; for several use ambao. The verb after it takes its own subject: mtu ambaye anakuja, the person who is coming; mtu ambaye nilimwona, the person whom I saw.
