Meaning

The part of the day around and just after noon, when the sun is at its highest. In Muslim use it is also the time of the midday prayer.

Good to know

Used with saa or wakati: saa saba adhuhuri is one in the afternoon, since Swahili hours count from dawn. It comes before alasiri and jioni; mchana is the everyday word for daytime.
