Meaning

To go without food, and sometimes drink, for a time as a religious practice of prayer or penance, such as during Lent or Ramadan.

Good to know

Literally to feed oneself on nothing. The period of fasting is igisibo: igisibo cya Ramadani. Gusiba is also said for fasting.
