Said of oneself, to make oneself into something or to act as if one were it; as a policy word, to stand on one's own feet. Built on kwiga, to study, it also means to go and study at a place.

Good to know

Kwigira umuhanga, to pose as an expert; kwigira mu Bushinwa, to study in China. Kwigira is also the name of Rwanda's self-reliance policy: umuco wo kwigira.
