Meaning

Stands for a person, or a thing of the umu class, that is already understood, followed by what it belongs to or its rank. Uwa mbere is the first one, uwa gatatu the third.

Good to know

Used for singular umu nouns such as umuntu or umusi: umusi wa kane n'uwa gatanu, Thursday and Friday. Plural people take aba (aba mbere, the first ones) and in or i nouns take iya.
