Meaning

Division and discrimination between groups of people, especially along ethnic, regional or political lines, and the hatred it breeds. It is a key word in speeches about unity and reconciliation in Burundi.

Good to know

Used in the plural only, it often comes with urwanko, hatred: kurwanya amacakubiri, to fight divisiveness. Kinyarwanda uses the same word.
