Meaning
important, senior, or great in status, or old and ancient — never used of physical size.
Good to know
an attributive stem (-kuru) that attaches to nouns of any class, e.g. umukuru (an elder/leader), inzu nkuru (a main house); it never means physically big.
Examples
- Uwo ni umukuru w'umuryango.That is the head of the family.
- Ivyo ni ibintu bikuru.Those are important matters.
- Umusozi kuru ntiwuvuga ubunini, ahubwo uvuga icubahiro.'Kuru' does not describe size, it describes status.
- Ni umukecuru mukuru mu gisagara.She is a senior elder in the village.
